The Maasai Mara National Reserve is a large wildlife reserve in Narok County, south-western Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The reserve covers around 1,510 square kilometres and is named after the Maasai people who traditionally inhabit the area. It is famous for its exceptional populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs and the annual migration of zebras, Thomsons gazelles and wildebeest crossing the Mara River between July and October. The Mara is a primary destination of Kenyan safari tourism.
