The Aburi Botanical Gardens are botanical gardens located in Aburi, Eastern Region of Ghana, about 30 km north of Accra in the Akwapim Hills. They were opened in March 1890 and cover an area of around 64.8 hectares (160 acres). The gardens are home to many native plant species as well as imported species from other tropical regions. The cool climate and shaded avenues of palms make the site a popular weekend destination from Accra. Notable features include the avenue of royal palms planted in 1900 and a strangler fig tree that has fully enclosed the original silk cotton tree it grew around.
