The Drakensberg is the eastern portion of the Great Escarpment of southern Africa, forming the border between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The range rises to over 3,400 metres at Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest point in southern Africa. The Maloti-Drakensberg Park, a transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site (inscribed 2000, extended 2013), protects both the dramatic basalt cliffs and a major concentration of San (Bushman) rock-art sites.
