Jumia Technologies AG is a pan-African e-commerce platform, often called "the Amazon of Africa." Founded in 2012 in Lagos, Nigeria, it operates in 11 African countries including Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Ghana, South Africa and Ivory Coast. In 2019 Jumia became the first African tech startup to list on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: JMIA). The platform offers a marketplace for electronics, fashion, groceries and other goods, along with JumiaPay (digital payments) and Jumia Logistics (last-mile delivery network). Jumia has adapted its model to African markets by supporting cash-on-delivery, which accounts for a large share of orders given low credit card penetration.
