In Ghana, the issuing authority for the drivers licence is the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), an executive agency of the Ministry of Transport. To obtain a full Ghanaian drivers licence, an applicant must first hold a learner permit, complete a training course with an accredited driving school and pass a written highway code test followed by an in-vehicle practical test. Licence classes range from class A (motorcycles) to classes B, C and D (cars, vans, trucks) and class E (heavy commercial vehicles and buses). Holders must renew their licence periodically and may be required to update biometric data.
