Aboakyer is a traditional deer-hunting festival celebrated by the Effutu people of Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. The festival usually takes place on the first Saturday of May. Two rival warrior groups, Tuafo (No. 1 Asafo company) and Dentsefo (No. 2 Asafo company), compete to capture a live bushbuck (a small antelope), which is then presented to the chief and used as a ritual offering to the local deity Penkye Otu. The festival also features drumming, processions, feasting and the recitation of Effutu history. It is a popular tourist event and an important expression of Effutu identity.
